
Locals evacuating their residences can hail a Lyft or Uber ride free of charge.
In response to the ongoing Lilac fire in North County, the ride-share companies both announced Friday that they were comping customers’ rides, up to $50, to evacuation centers in the county.
Lyft users can enter the code “KEEPSDSAFE” to take advantage of the offer. The company plans to keep the code active through Dec. 12, but may extend the date if needed, a spokeswoman said.
“We’re devastated by the fires in Southern California and our hearts go out to those who have been affected,” said Hao Meng, Lyft’s San Diego market manager. “We are currently working with local officials to offer rides to evacuation centers and we will continue to update those locations as we learn more. Our main focus is on the safety of our drivers and Lyft community.”
Currently, the free-ride code will work for rides to the following centers:
