An Uber driver is in “dire” condition after he was shot Thursday by two passengers on San Antonio’s Southwest Side, police said.
The driver picked up the two suspects at an unknown location and took them to the 7400 block of New Laredo Highway, where they shot him, at about 8:20 a.m., officials said.
The driver was struck twice in the abdomen, then stumbled to a nearby muffler shop, where paramedics picked him up and took him to San Antonio Military Medical Center for treatment.
“At last check, it wasn’t looking good,” Carlos Ortiz, a spokesman for the San Antonio Police Department, told media at the scene according to a livestream broadcast by multiple television stations. “He’s in dire circumstances.”
The two suspects fled in the driver’s vehicle and have not been apprehended, Ortiz said.
Investigators are trying to determine what vehicle the Uber driver owned and what led to the shooting. No suspect descriptions were immediately available, other than that one of the gunmen may have been wearing a red hoodie.
