The Ohio State Highway Patrol alleges that a large amount of cocaine found in the trunk of a ride hailing vehicle belonged to a passenger at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the U.S. District Court, Diontae Hill did knowingly possess 11 pounds of cocaine with intent to distribute the controlled substances.
The court documents state that an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper pulled over a Mercedes sedan that was seen committing a traffic violation while leaving the airport.
The trooper’s K-9 detected the presence of drugs in the vehicle, which prompted a probable cause search.
Investigators found approximately 11 pounds of cocaine in kilogram-sized packaging in the trunk, according to court documents.
Troopers identified the driver, who declared that he was an Uber driver hired by Hill as transportation. According to the criminal complaint, the driver said that Hill placed the suitcase in the trunk of the car when he was picked up at the airport.
Hill has denied ownership of the cocaine.
Hill’s appearance in federal court was scheduled for Thursday morning. His case has been bound over to a grand jury.
