If you’re willing to drop $3000 on a rideshare, this mode of transport with Uber may be the most exhilarating — albeit expensive — mode of travel you’ve ever taken. This once-in-a-lifetime experience is perfect for people who want to see what lives beneath the waves, but have no interest in learning how to dive. Known as ScUber, the rideshare is the first of its kind and will offer riders an unfiltered lens to Australia’s underwater icon — the Great Barrier Reef. The submarine experience — which will launch on Monday, May 27 in the Great Barrier Reef — but it’ll set you back a pretty penny, and will only be available for riders able to depart from Heron Island, off the coast of Gladstone in the Southern Great Barrier Reef region. scuber3 At a cool $3000 for two riders — of $1500 each — and you’ll be able to book the service from an Uber app which will transport you and a friend to the island followed by a one hour ride in a scUber submarine. scuber4 Passengers will dive to a maximum of 30 metres — about the same levels reached by advanced scuba divers — with 180-degree views of Australia’s most recognisable World Heritage Site in a battery-powered submarine. The sub, which seats two passengers and a pilot, has no negative impact on the reef. According to Uber, they will donate the same fare amount to reef conservation group Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef with each booking. scuber5 Just last year, Uber announced their futuristic vision to freeing up the clogged roads which plague our big cities. The company announced its ambitious UberAIR program could be tested in Australia by 2020, which would mean passengers could share short, cheap flights using Uber’s “flying cars” by 2023. It is believed the futuristic method of transport could massively slash travel times, with a two-hour trip by car in Sydney, for example, could become a 20-minute trip by UberAIR. scuber6
