A passenger physically assaulted a Milwaukee Uber driver about 1 a.m. Sunday, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy came across a stopped vehicle westbound on Interstate 94, west of 35th Street, which he believed was disabled, but found it was an Uber vehicle and that the driver had been assaulted.
The driver said the male passenger, 24-year-old Christian Collard, got upset with the route being taken and punched the driver in the face after a verbal exchange escalated, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Collard, of Green Bay, also grabbed the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to travel across other traffic lanes, the Sheriff’s Office said.
He is now in police custody, accused of recklessly endangering safety, battery and disorderly conduct.
When asked about the incident, Uber released a statement to WISN 12 News, saying: “Violence has no place on the Uber app or anywhere else. We have reached out to the driver to check on his well-being and have removed the rider’s access to the app.”
