HALLANDALE BEACH — A 48-year-old man died after he jumped out of the window of a Lyft car on Interstate 95 Sunday night and was hit by an oncoming car, according to a report from Florida Highway Patrol.

The unusual incident is being investigated as a fatal hit-and-run.

The man was hit and killed at about 8:15 p.m. after he jumped out of the window of a Lyft car, a black Chevrolet, as it traveled south on I-95, just south of Hallandale Beach Blvd., the agency said in a statement.

He was hit by a sedan whose driver did not stop, according to the highway patrol.

The man, who has not been identified, was taken to Aventura Hospital where he later died.

Florida Highway Patrol did not immediately respond to questions about the incident.

“Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones affected by this tragedy. We have reached out to the driver and the rider’s family, and stand ready to assist law enforcement in any investigation,” a spokeswoman for Lyft said in an email Monday. *by Austen Erblat via South Florida Sun Sentinel*
